Services
Whichever service option you require, be it Translation, Verification, Back-Translation, Interpreting or Typesetting you can rest assured that your work will be carried out by a hand picked native-speaking language specialist with extensive knowledge of your field, whether it be Legal, Financial, Marketing, Market Research, Technical or Software Localisation, or indeed something else.

This means that not only will your translation be culturally and linguistically perfect - it will also be created by a specialist in your area meaning the correct meaning of specialist terminology will be understood and translated so that you get the results you’re looking for.

A native speaker is important when it comes to translation, for only a native or mother-tongue speaker of a language can genuinely understand the individual nuances of a piece of text. Just think of prepositions in English – is it ‘different to’ or ‘different from’? How many times have you inadvertently corrected your foreign friends when they speak English?

Translation
What exactly is translation?
"A written rendering of the meaning of a word, speech, book etc. in another language" (Oxford English Dictionary)

In other words, a translation is a true and accurate reflection of a text in one language (the source language) in another language (the target language).

Getting the right translation...
Check your source text carefully:
- does it have a true ‘international’ flavour, or are the phrases and terms used localised?

- is the terminology used consistent? [How many words can you think of which mean ‘equipment’ - apparatus, appliance, utensil?]

- is the intended meaning clear? Catchphrases and puns do not translate well - often double-entendres have to be sacrificed to meaning and clarity

Remember - A translation is only as good as its source text

RP Translate can provide the highest quality translations to meet your needs and ensure that your text is both culturally and linguistically correct for your target audience.

Whatever the nature of your source text, be it Legal, Financial, Business, Marketing, Market Research, Technical or even if you require Software Localisation we have native-speaking specialists just waiting to help!

At RP Translate we are totally committed to giving you the best possible language experience and the highest quality end product.

Verification
RP Translate can offer you a Verification service. This involves independently checking that your translated document matches the source document and is fit for its intended purpose, so that you can relax and be confident that you are doing exactly what you set out to do. This service is available in addition to our translation service, or alternatively if you choose to have a translation completed elsewhere, we are able to check it for you.

An independent native-speaking professional will compare the translation against the source Master document. We will provide you with a Verification Template© so that you are able to choose for yourself if you are happy to accept the suggested changes or not. Whilst knowledge of the target language is desirable, our Verification Template© will empower you to be in control - without needing a full working understanding of the target language.

Back-Translation
RP Translate offers a Back Translation service. This means that you can have your translated material (whether it is done by us or an alternative supplier) independently translated back into the source language so that you can check to make sure that the correct meaning has not been lost in translation.

Whilst word order, or wording may change, the overall meaning should remain the same and be adapted to meet the cultural requirements of your target audience.

Interpreting
What is interpreting and are there different types?
Oral translation for the benefit of two or more parties speaking different languages. In plain speak, translating out loud what other people are saying. Interpreting falls into three main categories - simultaneous, consecutive and ad hoc.

Simultaneous interpreting, usually requiring headphones and microphones, is translation of the speaker’s words into other languages at the same time as he/she is speaking. Usually used at conferences or for group discussions, the proposed speech is often provided in advance for the interpreter. Simultaneous is the most demanding type of interpreting work.

Consecutive interpreting is translation of the speaker’s words into other languages directly after he/she has spoken, usually on a sentence-by-sentence basis. Usually used in courtrooms, or for one-to-one / one-to-many meetings, consecutive interpreting ensures perfect understanding for all parties.

Ad hoc interpreting is translation of the speaker’s words into other languages in an appropriate manner as circumstances dictate. Usually used for less formal business meetings, sightseeing, dinner parties, ad hoc interpreting means that your message gets across.

Conference Calls / Telephone Calls

It is possible to arrange for our interpreters to take part in telephone calls or conference calls.

Typesetting
What is typesetting?
Typesetting is the preparation of documents for print or web. Sometimes you will not need additional typesetting for your documents to be ready to use, for example, if you have a Word document from which you normally print and provide this for translation, we will simply arrange for your translation to be typed over the original text and make minor adjustments to the layout along the way, so that your translated document is ready for the same treatment as your original.

However, if you need to carry out additional work to your text before you can use it, such as laying it out in Quark or Illustrator, as is often the case with marketing leaflets, flyers, brochures and business cards, placing the text into Ami-Pro or In Design (Pagemaker) for technical manuals and instructions, or dropping translations into html format for web publishing, you will require additional typesetting for your translation.

RP Translate can provide professional multilingual Typesetting and PC to Mac text conversion services depending on your requirements and those of your printer or web designer. Just contact us and we will be happy to help and advise you.

Multilingual Typesetting
We can provide fully translated print ready Quark and EPS files. PDFs are provided for proofing.

PC / Mac Text Conversion
If you have translation completed elsewhere it may be that the work will be created on a PC based program. Depending on the languages and alphabets or idiographs involved, it is not always possible to transfer this directly onto an AppleMac Operating System platform, so we are able to offer a conversion service to smooth the way.

Languages
Whatever language and language combination you need, we will pull out all the stops to find suitable translators and editors for your work. Price is often a consideration for more unusual languages, so we will give you a fixed cost for completing your work before you agree to anything, meaning that you will always know the bottom line in advance, helping you plan and budget accordingly.

We are always expanding our team of professional translators so that we are able to cover almost any language and language combination for you to meet your requirements. To date we have handled more than 200 into or from English, as well as many where English is not one of the language pair.

Here is a brief list of just some of the languages we cover - please note that this list is by no means exhaustive so if you don't see the language you need - just let us know!

Specialist Areas
Every text requires a specialist approach to ensure that it is completely suitable for the purpose for which it is intended. Translating that text requires the same level of specialist approach, as well as an understanding of how to localise the text fully so that it functions fully in its target market.

To ensure such fitness for purpose, RP Translate have set up hand-picked teams of native-speaking language specialists with extensive knowledge of your field to ensure your finished translation is fully fit for use as you need it to be. Whether your company requires Financial & Legal, Marketing, Market Research, Technical or Software Localisation & Website application translations, we have teams ready and waiting to help you. These are just a few selected specialist areas - we have many more!

Not only will your translation be culturally and linguistically perfect so that others can understand, it will also be created by a specialist in your area, resulting in the correct interpretation of specialist terminology, giving you total peace of mind.

Delivery
RP Translate fully understands the pressures that you face and we are always on hand to do the very best we can to help, especially when it comes to delivery times.

Generally speaking, translators can comfortably translate between 1000 and 2000 words a day, some more, some less, depending on the nature and complexity of the text, the amount of research required, and the language combinations involved. As with everything in life, the quicker you work at something, the more likely it is to affect the overall quality. This is why it is important to try to leave as much time as possible to have your translations completed – however as we all know this is not always possible!

We do have additional means in place to try to alleviate this stress - our Rapid Response Service. This service is available for selected translations and means that for a little extra we can guarantee that your work will be dealt with and returned quicker than with our Standard Service, but with the same guarantees.

Verifications (also known as proofreading or validation) can sometimes take longer than a translation because you are checking for differences and errors, and then correcting them! Not quite as straightforward as a basic translation!
